Drum Lagging

Conveyor Drum Lagging

Improving grip, protecting pulleys and keeping conveyors running.

A drive pulley plays a critical role in transferring power from the motor to the conveyor belt. When grip is reduced, belt slip can occur, causing increased wear, heat build-up and unnecessary strain on the conveyor system.

At N E Vulcanising, we install reliable drum lagging solutions designed to improve traction, reduce belt slip and extend pulley life. Whether it’s a new installation or refurbishment of an existing drum, we provide practical solutions suited to the conditions your conveyor operates in.

Our Drum Lagging Options Include:

  • Diamond pattern rubber lagging- improving grip and reducing belt slip in general conveyor applications
  • Square pattern ceramic lagging- providing increased traction for demanding, high-slip environments

Diamond Pattern Rubber Drum Lagging

Diamond pattern rubber lagging is a reliable solution for improving drive pulley grip and reducing the risk of belt slip in standard conveyor applications.

The diamond pattern helps channel away moisture and contamination, allowing the belt and pulley to maintain better contact while reducing wear on the conveyor system.

Best For

  • General quarry and aggregate applications
  • Dry or mildly damp conditions
  • Drive pulleys requiring improved traction
  • Conveyors experiencing minor belt slip issues

Why Choose Diamond Pattern Rubber Drum Lagging?

  • Improves belt-to-pulley grip
  • Helps reduce belt slip and wear
  • Protects the pulley shell from abrasion
  • Extends pulley service life
  • Cost-effective solution for many conveyor systems

When Is Diamond Pattern Rubber Drum Lagging Not The Right Choice?

In wet, muddy or heavily contaminated environments, rubber lagging may not provide enough traction. In these conditions, ceramic lagging is often the better option.

Square Pattern Ceramic Drum Lagging

Ceramic drum lagging is designed for conveyors operating in demanding conditions where maximum grip and reduced slip are essential.

Ceramic tiles embedded into a rubber matrix provide increased friction between the pulley and belt, helping maintain drive even in wet, dirty or high-load environments.

Best For

  • Wet or muddy conditions
  • High-slip applications
  • Heavy-duty conveyors
  • High-tension drive pulleys
  • Areas where belt slip is causing performance issues

Why Choose Square Pattern Ceramic Drum Lagging?

  • Provides increased traction in challenging conditions
  • Reduces belt slip and heat build-up
  • Helps improve power transfer
  • Protects the pulley from wear
  • Extends the working life of the drum and belt

When Is Square Pattern Ceramic Drum Lagging Not The Right Choice?

Ceramic lagging is not always necessary for every conveyor. For standard applications where contamination and slip are not an issue, rubber lagging may provide the most practical and cost-effective solution.

Professional Drum Lagging Installation

The performance of drum lagging depends on correct preparation and installation. Our experienced engineers ensure the pulley surface is properly prepared before applying the lagging, helping achieve a reliable bond and long service life.

We can provide drum lagging solutions as part of planned maintenance, conveyor upgrades or during repair work- helping reduce future problems and keep your conveyor operating efficiently.
